Lieutenant Detective Commander (Retired)
New York City Police Department

Alicia C. Parker retired from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) as a lieutenant detective commander in 1995 after 22 years of service. Parker comes from a long line of police officers—her father, brother, sister and uncle all served in the NYPD. Despite her family legacy of law enforcement service, Parker, herself, was a pioneer in her own right when in 1973 she became one of the first two African-American female police officers on patrol assigned to the 41st Precinct in the Bronx.

Parker went on to command the Personal Security Unit at the NYPD Intelligence Division where she worked with Mayor David Dinkins during his tenure as mayor of New York City. After retirement, she became a director of security for the National Basketball Association (NBA) and managed security for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and NBA Development League (NBDL). During her many years of association with professional sports, Parker managed events and conducted investigations for the NBA, WNBA and NBDL.

In 2002, Parker left the NBA and was hired as the first senior director of security for ESPN worldwide wherein she and her team were responsible for and implemented security internationally for all ESPN facilities and events. In addition to her team gaining a stellar reputation for conducting numerous successful investigations, she also was instrumental in implementing many programs that contributed to making ESPN a safer workplace.

Alicia retired from ESPN in 2009 and is currently working with various organizations providing service to her community. She currently serves as chair of the Advisory Board for the High School for Enterprise, Business & Technology in Brooklyn, New York. A graduate of New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, Alicia is a resident of Queens, New York, the mother of two children and grandmother of five.
