Lee Hawkins is a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal and the host of The Business of Celebrity with Lee Hawkins, which appears on the WSJ Live network, WSJ.com and WSJ’s YouTube channel. The show features in-depth interviews with the biggest celebrities in entertainment and sports and influential newsmakers. Guests on the show have included Lady Gaga, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Betty White, Ultimate Fighting Championships execs Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta, boxer Manny Pacquiao, the Kardashian sisters, and Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel of Saudi Arabia, among many others.
A multi-platform journalist, Hawkins also writes stories for the print edition of The Wall Street Journal based mainly on his WSJ celebrity coverage. He often represents the WSJ on many programs, including entertainment shows such as The Insider and on the Fox Network. He also has been a WSJ contributor to CNBC, where he hosted the highly-rated, one-hour documentary, NEWBOs: The Rise of America’s New Black Overclass.
Hawkins previously covered General Motors Co. from the Journal’s Detroit Bureau. Before reporting on GM and the challenges facing America’s “Big Three” automakers, he worked as a business reporter for Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and Wisconsin State Journal.
Lee has covered a wide range of industries during his career, including electric and telecommunications utilities, manufacturing, technology and minority-owned businesses. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was editorial page editor of the Badger Herald student newspaper. He is a member of the UW-Madison board of visitors for the university’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
