Brian M. Wright is New London, CT’s Chief of Police. Chief Brian M. Wright is a 28+ year veteran of the New London Police Department. He was designated the “Acting Chief of Police” by New London Mayor Michael Passero on May 28, 2021 and sworn in as the new Chief of Police on July 14, 2021. Chief Wright is the first black police Chief in the history of the New London Police Department. He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) National Academy (Session #262) in Quantico, VA. Chief Wright was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT.
During his tenure with the New London Police Department, Chief Wright has held many ranks and numerous special assignments. In addition, Chief has been the recipient of numerous awards and citations by the New London Police Department, other law enforcement agencies (State & Federal), and community organizations. He is a certified Connecticut Police Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.-C) instructor in 20 different subject areas and has taught at several police academies in the New England region. Chief Wright is certified in CIT, PEER Support, and Critical Incident Management.
Chief Wright has been selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Blacks in Connecticut by the Connecticut NAACP in the past.
Chief Wright is an appointed member of the Connecticut Police Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.-C) Social Justice Advisory Committee (SJAC). SJAC was established to provide the P.O.S.T.-C with guidance and recommendations regarding policy, curriculum and standards developed and maintained by the P.O.S.T.-C, as it relates to matters of social justice and equality. Chief Brian M. Wright is also a Steering Committee member for the Center for Safe Futures project. Safe Futures, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, serves nearly 10,000 victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and trafficking annually.
