Law Enforcement Education - Serving in the 21st Century

Law Enforcement Education.jpg

Dedication to Community delivers accessible and relevant education that can be utilized in every public encounter and most patrol scenarios. Credible instructors, from former sworn law enforcement to current judicial appointees, impart life principles through personal story and interactive sessions, modeling communication and interpersonal skills which participants learn and practice through authentic dialogue, small group work, and guided individual reflection and presentation. Participants leave with the foundation and methods for building relationships that can be used anywhere, yet with the benefit of historic background and context for law enforcement, specific to where they are.

Our curriculum is grounded in healing, reconciliation and unity. Importantly, D2C intentionally brings community perspectives to its law enforcement training, inviting guests from historically marginalized communities as well as officer feedback. We ensure empirical evidence about issues faced by law enforcement as well as communities, and any desired training and skills, are provided to the parent agency so that subsequent sessions and community engagements address these issues as well as fulfill practical needs

D2C is employing field tested training to reduce trauma, save lives, reduce avoidable incarceration and lawsuits, reduce the profound human, economic, and community cost associated with the continued lack of such training. Upwards of 90% of those surveyed subsequent to our training state that our content, methodologies and instructors are achieving these goals successfully.

D2C’s ongoing training has engaged police officers and community leaders in several states and from across the globe. We have worked with law enforcement and other agencies in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, the Carolinas and the FBI National Academy in Virginia, where Williams has been a guest instructor and member of its Law Enforcement Training & Education Council.

It applies real life scenarios from former law enforcement that emphasize the importance of building relationships with the community. Quentin opens up a discussion about the challenges of keeping those relationships strong during today’s times.

Nurturing our new generations of leaders, Dedication to Community convenes high school and college students, and private groups of any size, to engage in frank dialogue about what successful law enforcement/community relations mean to them. Facilitators moderate and invite courageous conversations on topics ranging from rebuilding communities, interacting with law enforcement and getting home safely, to thriving in today's society and appreciating cultural and racial differences. These sessions can be done with or without law enforcement participants, but feedback will always be provided to local law enforcement with the opportunity to engage in future facilitated dialogue.

It’s a very important talk to have - most students don’t know how to correctly interact with an officer. It’s great what you are doing because there are incidents caused by not knowing.

We view our race team as a platform to influence our community. Our partnership with D2C is helping us expand that vision through relationships, building bridges and fostering communication geared towards making us better and increasing our influence in a broader community. Quentin and his team are leading us in tangible action steps both inside and outside of our building.
