Chief Timothy Shaw commenced his law enforcement career in 1988 with the Stamford Police Department. Starting in uniform patrol, he quickly transitioned to become an investigator for the Statewide Narcotics Task Force in 1990. Serving as an undercover officer, he collaborated with local, state, and federal partners to infiltrate organizations in Fairfield County. Shaw progressed through the ranks, holding roles such as Sergeant, Lieutenant in the Narcotics Division, and Patrol Lieutenant for the Eastside District.
Having managed investigators within the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Shaw assumed broader responsibilities as Lieutenant Commander for the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit. A graduate of the FBI National Academy and Senior Management in Policing Executive Training, he was appointed Assistant Chief by Chief Jon Fontneau. In 2015, Shaw became the police chief of Easton, handling a high-profile double murder case shortly after taking office.
Returning to Stamford, Chief Shaw addresses community issues related to COVID-19, police accountability, and the pandemic's impact on mental health. Recognized for his policing work, he received awards, including the Distinguished Chief’s award from the Connecticut Police Commissioners in 2018 and the 2020 Stamford Boys and Girls Club award, "Champions of Youth." Chief Shaw's leadership and accomplishments demonstrate his commitment to law enforcement and community service.
